High Plains RC&D, early on, recognized the need to map and inventory stands of Eastern Red Cedar in order to be able to assist industries in properly locating their business or industry. High Plains RC&D has raised $135,000 to pay for the cost of mapping 18 counties in Oklahoma, including five counties in the region. This mapping has resulted in the establishment of 73 new businesses and over 200 new jobs, although not all of them are in the High Plains region. The partners in this project include: Oklahoma Department of Commerce, Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, & Forestry, School Lands Commission, USDA-NRCS, and USDA-ARS.
